Food is unifying and divisive at the same time. On one hand, food is needed and loved by all. On the other hand, different cultures have different norms, taboos, and meanings attached to food. Frictions may arise due to a poor understanding of food across different cultures.

This Tasting Culture series provide a platform for learning, appreciating, and tasting foods and drinks from different cultures as a way to develop cross-cultural intelligence and cosmopolitanism.

The programme provides participants with opportunities to:

  • Appreciate (and perhaps make) culturally significant foods/drinks;
  • Learn about the social and cultural meanings associated with the foods/drinks;
  • Develop cross-cultural intelligence and social skills through foods/drinks;
  • Relax, socialize and make new friends.
Life in the contemporary world is often hectic and highly stressful, including for university students. With its roots in ancient Hindu culture and philosophy, yoga today has become a popular exercise for people to achieve moments of mindfulness, mental peace, bodily awareness and discipline, hence relaxation. This programme comprises two yoga practice sessions. The first session introduces the basic principles and practices of yoga, whereas the second session focuses on yoga techniques that help participants manage stress levels. Through this programme, participants will gain entry-level knowledge about yoga practice as well as wellness in general. The programme also provides opportunities for participants to socialize through enjoying a healthy fruit buffet.
