The first TechStage@SCSE ended on a positive note on 23rd Oct 2019, Wednesday, at SCSE Innovation Lab.
TechStage@SCSE is a new platform initiated by the 1st SCSE Innovation Lab (iLab) Student Committee. The platform aims to assist our SCSE students who like to step forward and share tech knowledge with their fellow peers, by providing strong supports such as venue, publicity outreach, refreshments and other administrative matter. We like to pride this platform as a SCSE run initiative, by SCSE students, for SCSE students*.
The first session sees student speakers, Rohan (CS Year 2) with his co-facilitator Abhinav (EEE Year 2) and Okkar (CS Year 3) conducting a workshop on Web Scraping with Python & Selenium.
Through the session, participants learnt the basics of Selenium and had a hands on web scraping experience. The student speakers also shared how simple automation like web scraping can save time and maximise opportunities such as, for instance, looking for an internship.
At the end of the session, refreshment is provided for everyone to mingle and network. Participants feedback that the session is really useful and had a comfortable learning pace. Student speakers also appreciated the supports that iLab provided.
Both participants and student speakers look forward to another session of such event in the future.
As we are nearing the end of the semester and with final exams around the corner, next session will likely happen in Semester 2. With this first session as a gauge and trial, we will make the next one even better J
