Streaming in the Super App Era: Exploring Media Consumption within Digital Ecosystems
In today's digital ecosystem, users are no longer constrained by traditional media channels but instead have access to a wide array of content, delivered instantly through streaming services. This shift in media consumption has been accompanied by the rise of "super apps," highly integrated platforms that combine numerous services—ranging from messaging and e-commerce to financial transactions and, increasingly, media streaming services. The integration of media streaming apps within these super apps represents a convergence of entertainment and everyday functionalities that promises unparalleled convenience for users. However, this trend also brings with it significant challenges and questions regarding user agency, privacy, and the potential monopolistic control of the digital ecosystem

Regional Reels: Crafting Screen Stories Across Borders
'Regional Reels' is a two-year screen industry initiative funded by the ASEAN-Australia Centre of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, designed to foster talent development, skill-sharing, cross-cultural collaboration, and long-term partnerships among emerging filmmakers from ASEAN nations and Australia. Bringing together twelve screen professionals—two each from Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia—the project aims to co-develop culturally diverse screen productions that reflect regional narratives, facilitating sustainable industry networks, trade, and investment opportunities. Additionally, the project involves a consortium of six universities, leveraging diverse academic expertise to produce both creative works and traditional research outputs, including journal publications. The consortium serves as an institutional framework for ongoing educational, research, and industry collaborations between ASEAN and Australian universities, contributing to the project's legacy and impact on the regional screen industries.
