Young Environmental Advocate Terese Teoh Makes Waves Locally and Globally

NTU Student Feature Story

At just 22, Terese Teoh, a final year undergraduate majoring in Environmental Earth Systems Science and Public Policy and Global Affairs (ESPP), has emerged as a significant figure in the environmental sphere, both locally and internationally. While her journey began with a failed secondary school project addressing food waste, it sparked her passion for environmental issues. Today, she holds the position of President at Singapore Youth for Climate Action (SYCA). She has been recognized with the prestigious 10 for Zero Award, making her the youngest recipient of this honour. This award celebrates her unwavering commitment to shaping a future of zero waste and carbon emissions.

Terese’s achievements have not gone unnoticed on the international stage. Last year, she was among a select group of seven Singaporean youths who attended the United Nations (UN) COP27 climate conference in Egypt, where world leaders converged to address pressing climate issues.

Over the past few years, Terese has dedicated her time to volunteering in environmental spaces, gaining valuable experience organizing climate-related policy workshops, youth conferences, and campaigns. Her multidisciplinary ESPP course has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of quantitative environmental earth systems science and communication, public affairs, and international relations. She serves as a shining example, representing the next generation of public policymakers armed with the tools necessary to address the challenges of our rapidly changing world.
