US-China relations after the Xi-Trump Washington Summit - From strategic confrontation to manageable competitive coexistence
In an op-ed, Prof Tan Kong Yam, Emeritus Professor, School of Social Sciences, NTU, said the Washington summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping did not end strategic competition but highlighted a shift toward “manageable competitive coexistence,” combining continued rivalry with guardrails, communication, selective cooperation and efforts to prevent military conflict. The US-China economic and technological competition is expected to remain structural, with selective decoupling and re-coupling, he wrote.
