Xi Jinping’s tech diplomacy meets harsh realities of BRICS
BRICS is gaining cohesion, but internal divisions remain. As it seeks a bigger global role, China is using AI cooperation to expand its network of partners, promote its standards and gain an edge over the US. NTU Assoc Prof Dylan Loh believes that the Gulf states have differing interests and therefore attach varying levels of importance to BRICS. He believes the Middle Eastern countries currently hope primarily to use BRICS to gain market access, economic opportunities and greater trade, while also expanding their diplomatic space.
