Xi Jinping calls on BRICS countries to jointly defend multilateralism

Chinese President Xi Jinping has indirectly criticised the US for starting a trade war, urging BRICS countries to defend multilateralism, oppose protectionism, and support his call for a “fairer and more just global governance system.” Assoc Prof Dylan Loh at NTU’s PPGA programme, and Lye Liang Fook, Senior Fellow at ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute, said that Xi had used the BRICS online summit to reinforce his global governance initiative, first introduced at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
