Will China send warships to the Strait of Hormuz?

US President Donald Trump has called on China and several other countries to send warships to escort vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blockaded by Iran. However, experts say China is unlikely to participate, given that it has so far responded in a relatively cautious and restrained manner. NTU PPGA’s Assoc Prof Dylan Loh said China would likely remain cautious and adopt a wait-and-see approach, noting that joining a coalition with US would contradict China’s criticism or US strikes.
