Washington talks may extend US-China trade truce

With the tariff truce set to expire on Nov 10, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the US this week for talks with President Donald Trump, following eight hours of US-China discussions in New York focused on trade and AI. Associate Professor Dylan Loh at NTU’s Public Policy and Global Affairs said the talks were more positive than expected and that the two countries could reach an agreement on AI, as well as make progress on investment and trade mechanisms. The Washington meeting may also address extending the tariff truce, increasing Chinese purchases of US goods and advancing practical cooperation, although differences remain over the terms and duration of a possible extension.
