‘Vilified for my culture’: why are Chinese-Australians having their national loyalty questioned?

Former Asia foreign correspondent Hamish Macdonald, who wrote columns about the Australian media’s coverage of Asian affairs on the John Menadue public policy website, said the media frequently took the line that “they are protecting Australian sovereignty and identity” when they put out reports on China’s alleged interference. Australia, however, did have reason to be concerned about foreign interference from China, especially given its more “active” diplomacy, said Asst Prof Dylan Loh from NTU Singapore.
