US-China’s tussle over AI standards is a battle for trust
The US-China rivalry in setting global technology rules has expanded from 5G to AI - now the main battleground for systemic dominance. Following the US release of its “Winning the AI Race” action plan on July 23, Chinese Premier Li Qiang proposed on July 26 the creation of a World AI Cooperation Organisation, likely based in Shanghai, alongside the launch of a Global AI Governance Action Plan. NTU Asst Prof Dylan Loh noted that trust in AI depends on the political culture and ideology behind the models, including whether they provide both positive and negative information.
