US a destabilising force for global growth, says top economist

Renowned economist and Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs said the United States is the “most destabilising force in the world”, as he outlined global economic risks up to 2050 at an Economic Society of Singapore event on Oct 29, moderated by Professor Euston Quah, Albert Winsemius chair professor of economics and director of NTU’s Economic Growth Centre. Professor Sachs cited the Trump administration as a threat to a multipolar world, which he said has fuelled global growth since the 1950s by driving industrialisation, technology advancement, and rising literacy in regions including Asean.
