Unprecedented diplomatic flurry as UAE, Russia, Vietnam visit Beijing amid energy crisis

Amid stalled US–Iran peace talks and continued disruptions to global energy supply due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Chinese President Xi Jinping met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Beijing. NTU PPGA’s Assoc Prof Dylan Loh said, “Any leader visiting China now addresses two agendas: the energy crisis triggered by the Hormuz blockade and China’s role in mitigating Middle East conflicts. Behind these visits lies the expectation that China will play a more active part in easing regional tensions while addressing energy crises.”
