Can trump counter Cambodia's China tilt?
By lifting its arms embargo on Cambodia, Washington has signalled President Donald Trump aims to lure Phnom Penh away from Beijing – a move experts warn would be difficult to achieve. Kei Koga, an associate professor of public policy and global affairs at Singapore's NTU, said that overall US-Cambodia relations had "improved", with Washington helping to mediate the Cambodia-Thailand conflict. "Meanwhile, Cambodia is struggling to attract Chinese investment and tourists - partly due to scam-related concerns - giving it stronger incentives to diversify its economic ties with other major powers."
