The US-China rare earth war has reached a truce, easing global concerns about supply chains

After meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping in Busan on Thursday, US President Donald Trump told reporters that all rare earth issues had been resolved. China’s Ministry of Commerce later confirmed it will suspend the export controls announced on October 9 for one year and is working out detailed plans. NTU’s Assoc Professor Dylan Loh said the suspension is the most significant outcome, as its impact goes beyond China and the US to the many countries that rely on China’s rare earth and heavy metal supply.
