Tan Kong Yam: US-China rivalry offers ASEAN strategic balance

Speaking at a public lecture hosted by NTU’s RSIS on August 5, NTU Emeritus Professor of Economics Tan Kong Yam noted that while the US and China hold advantages in semiconductors and rare earths, their mutual checks and balances can serve as a stabilising force, if tensions don’t escalate into military conflict. He believes that this dynamic creates strategic room for ASEAN to maintain balance between the two powers while continuing to deepen economic ties with China.
