The number of supermarkets experiencing "shrinkflation" was less than 5% last year

Shrinkflation, where product sizes decrease while prices stay similar, affects less than 5% of about 3,000 supermarket items in Singapore. NTU’s Asst Prof Chua Yeow Hwee noted that such changes may take place with a time lag as firms adjust contracts and sourcing, and explained that companies prefer reducing quantity over raising prices directly since consumers are more sensitive to price changes in frequently purchased items.
