Singles worry new pro-family measures will shift the burden to them

Singapore’s new pro-family measures have been welcomed by young families but have also caused some singles to worry about increased workplace and financial burdens. Asst Prof Chua Yeow Hwee, from NTU’s School of Social Sciences, that supporting parenting families and protecting the rights of singles are not mutually exclusive. The two are essentially the same, which is to assist Singaporeans in forming families at different stages of life, taking care of their loved ones, and balancing various responsibilities in work and life.
