Prevention of large-scale of rural workers reflects an unfavourable economic situation: Expert

China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs proposed at a working meeting to pave the way for the re-employment of its rural workers and prevent large-scale poverty due to unemployment. NTU’s Assoc Prof Zhan Shaohua said that one of the biggest contributions to the alleviation of China's rural poverty, aside from national policies, is the ability of rural workers to find work in cities. He added that China’s large low- to middle-skilled workforce may have been overlooked as everyone focuses on the country’s technological development. He suggests that rural areas should develop labour-intensive industries and unique industries such as agritourism.
