Noisy void deck? Discuss it with tolerance and dialogue
The news about the closure of the soccer field at Block 422 Bedok North Road and the barricaded void deck at Block 638 Woodlands Ring Road due to recent noise complaints drew various views from the public. Some support it, and others consider such a move extreme and worry that the ‘kampung spirit' is disappearing. Sharing his views, Asst Prof Walid Jumblatt Abdullah from NTU’s School of Social Sciences said the move is contradictory – on one hand, people complain about poor local sports performance, but on the other hand, there is no place for people to play and develop their sporting talents. "There are rules that allow people to use the place until 10 pm. Therefore, let the people make noise until 10 pm. And if there are a few people who complain, let them. The government does not need to respond to every complaint because there are rules to protect both parties," he said.
