No ‘honeymoon period’ as Parliament begins
Besides the new political officeholders and MPs, attention in Parliament is also on Prime Minister Wong’s leadership and the opposition’s performance. Assoc Prof Walid Jumblatt Abdullah from NTU’s SSS said on the No Tapis Bherbual podcast (10 Sept) that he hoped all parties would step up, and that the government would be more open to opposition suggestions despite differences. Singapore’s 15th Parliament opened on 5 September with 99 MPs, including two NCMPs, sworn in – the largest in the nation’s history.
