Millions of single men in rural areas find it hard to find a truly sincere heart

In China, approximately 30 million single men live in rural areas. The vast urban-rural divide and rapid social change have pushed them to the bottom of the marriage market, making them a systemically disadvantaged group. Zhan Shaohua, Associate Professor of Sociology at NTU in Singapore, pointed out that the problem of single men in China has been worsening over the past 15 years and may become even more severe in the future. He added that the current situation of single men in rural areas is related to both individual factors such as education level, employment status, and personality, as well as macro-level social factors and structural problems.
