Household electricity and gas tariffs both to fall in the fourth quarter

Singapore’s household electricity tariff will fall 10.4% to 28.59 cents per kWh and gas prices will drop 8.6% to 21.45 cents per kWh in the fourth quarter, reflecting lower energy costs, although renewed Middle East tensions could push prices higher next quarter. Asst Prof Yeow Hwee Chua from NTU said Singapore’s reliance on imported natural gas makes electricity prices vulnerable to global fuel prices, supply and demand, and geopolitical developments, while energy efficiency and comparing electricity plans can help households reduce costs.
