Trump hails 'great success' after talks with Xi raise hopes of easing US-China tensions
China and the US have agreed to de-escalate their trade war, putting a pause on many thorny issues while making breakthroughs on soybean purchases and fentanyl tariffs. US President Donald Trump hailed the meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Gimhae Air Base in Busan, South Korea, as a "great success". NTU’s Assoc Professor Dylan Loh, said the Xi-Trump meeting was consequential because it addressed several "irritants" both old and new in US-China relations. "The agreements reached on rare earths, soybeans, fentanyl and the possibility of loosening chips restrictions would create conditions to inject stability into the relationship," he said.
