Guest Lecture: “The Crisis of Modernity: The Case of Muslims in Australia”

We were honoured to welcome Dr Jan A. Ali, President of the Australian Association of Islamic and Muslim Societies and Senior Lecturer at the School of Humanities & Communication Arts, Western Sydney University, to our School, on 18 November 2025.

Dr Ali delivered an engaging talk to our PhD students on “The Crisis of Modernity: The Case of Muslims in Australia”, offering insights into contemporary challenges faced by Muslim communities in Australia. The session was highly interactive, with opportunities for students to discuss their research and exchange ideas with both Dr Ali and Prof Kamaludeen.

PhD students from Sociology and the School of Humanities whose research intersects with religion in Islamic studies benefited from this informal setting, deepening their understanding of the field while fostering connections across disciplines.
