Guangxi floods exposed the snake industry worth billions

On more farmers turning to snake farming in the recent years, Assoc Prof Zhan Shaohua from NTU's SSS, who studies rural issues in China, pointed out that specialised aquaculture, such as snake farming, plays a significant role in rural economic development. He explained that many farmers in China rely on multiple sources of income. Besides farming and labour work, aquaculture can bring additional income, thereby reducing the economic risks faced by farmers and alleviating the problem of surplus labour.
