US imposes US$100,000 tax on foreign tech talent: Could Singapore Benefit?

US President Donald Trump has announced a US$100,000 annual tax on H-1B visa applicants, sparking controversy. Some analysts have said that as the US pushes global talent away, countries like Singapore may see an increase in their attractiveness to such talent. In a commentary, Asst Prof of Economics at NTU, Chua Yeow Hwee, wrote that Singapore's small market means that it lacks the international brand power of the US. However, Singapore’s advantage is its stability and predictability. These become particularly highlighted as Trump takes tough measures against the H-1B visa, and they could serve as a strong incentive for global talent to consider moving to Singapore.
