Electricity tariffs increased, leading to a continued rise in average electricity consumption for HDB households in April

Despite electricity tariffs increasing in April, electricity consumption continues to climb. Latest data shows that average electricity consumption for one- to five-room HDB flats reached its highest level this year in April.  Chua Yeow Hwee, assistant professor of economics at NTU, pointed out that electricity consumption is a basic necessity and cannot be immediately reduced by simple reminders. He believes the policy focus should not just be on reminding people to use less electricity, but on helping them use electricity more efficiently.
