Diverse dialogue on Gaza's suffering: invisible boundaries leave people speechless

Lianhe Zaobao and Berita Harian jointly organised two dialogue sessions to explore local perspectives on Gaza and reflect on Singapore’s multicultural dynamics. NTU student Nurainun Mardhiyah said, she feels comfortable discussing Gaza only with peers of similar backgrounds, as cross-cultural dialogue remains limited. NTU lecturer Dr Felix Tan stressed that creating safe spaces for open discussion is vital yet challenging, noting how people are often labelled “anti-Semitic” or “terrorist” for differing views. NTU Assoc Prof Walid, an advocate for Palestinian issues, acknowledged his own social comfort zone but said it is important to engage differing perspectives.
