35 years on, China-Singapore ties remain more forward-looking than ever

As China pursues high-quality development and Singapore advances its Smart Nation vision, cooperation has expanded into areas like AI, green energy, and the digital economy. The China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and the Alibaba-NTU collaborations exemplify this shift, including the 2024 launch of the Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab to drive research in energy-efficient AI and sustainable living. NTU’s Assoc Prof Hoo Tiang Boon said AI, green transition, smart cities, and the digital economy are future growth engines that complement both countries’ strengths, citing China’s BYD, Singapore’s top car brand in 2024, as aligning with the nation’s push for cleaner transport.
