China’s reformist former premier Zhu Rongji dies

China’s former premier Zhu Rongji, whose bold economic reforms propelled his country to become the world’s second-largest economy, has died two months shy of his 98th birthday. He died in Beijing onAug12, state news agency Xinhua reported. “Without him, China would not be the major economic power(itis) today,” said Tan Kong Yam, an emeritus professor of economics at the NTU, who had met Zhu and was “very impressed by his vision and determination and intellect”.
