China and Japan have been locked in a diplomatic spat that could come at a heavy cost to both sides. “Over time, the Japanese public and businesses are likely to take the uncertainties surrounding economic interactions with China more seriously,” says Kei Koga, an associate professor at Singapore-based NTUs Public Policy and Global Affairs Programme. “In the longer term, this will likely lead to greater efforts to de-risk Japan’s economic ties with China.”
