China adds 10 US companies to export control list

Two weeks after the United States added several Chinese companies to its military equipment list, the Chinese government responded by adding 10 US entities, including rare earth companies MP Materials and USA Rare Earth, to its export control list. In addition, China is banning government procurement from 46 US companies. Assoc Prof Dylan Loh from NTU said China is becoming more proactive in defending its dominance in the rare earth sector by targeting firms attempting to build alternative supply chains. He noted that while both countries have reached a broad consensus on a “constructive strategic relationship”, gaps remain in how it is understood and implemented.
