Commentary: Budget 2025 shifts the focus from short-term wage support to long-term skills investment

In a commentary, Assistant Professor in Economics at NTU and Deputy Director of the Economic Growth Centre Chua Yeow Hwee said that the shift from wage support to long-term skills investment of low wage workers can help create a more resilient, productive and inclusive workforce in Singapore. As Singapore’s economy evolves, wage support alone is not enough to ensure economic mobility. Instead, investing in human capital, by making training more accessible and financially viable, is a more sustainable strategy.
