Average utility bills for HDB flats surged 21 per cent in the hottest month so far this year

Last month, Singapore hit its highest temperature since the beginning of the year. In order to cool down, many people turned on air conditioners or electric fans at home to lower the temperature. Data from Singapore Power Group showed that the average water and electricity bills of HDB flats in April increased by 21 per cent year-on-year, with four-room HDB flats being the most affected. NTU Asst Prof Chua Yeow Hwee said in an interview that energy saving mainly depends on changes in the public's behaviour, such as actively monitoring the length of time they use electrical appliances.
