Asst Prof Akshar Saxena Presents Research at WHO Philippines Policy Consultation

Asst Prof Akshar Saxena from our Economics Programme recently presented his research at the Multi-Stakeholder Consultative Meeting on Sugar-Sweetened Beverage (SSB) Taxation Policy in the Philippines, held at the World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines Office in Manila on 8 July.
His presentation highlighted research on the design, health and economic impacts of SSB taxation. Building on this work, Asst Prof Saxena will collaborate with the Philippines' Department of Health and Department of Finance to help inform the design of the country's next phase of beverage taxation and evaluate the impact of the existing SSB tax.
In addition, he shared emerging methods for measuring public sentiment towards health policies. Supported by a CoHASS Research Support Grant, this research will be undertaken in collaboration with Charles Alba.
Asst Prof Saxena's participation reflects our commitment to conducting research that informs policy and addresses real-world public health challenges. We are proud to see our researchers engaging with international organisations and policymakers to translate academic research into meaningful public health policy and impact.
