16-day gamble: Can Sanae Takaichi choose a new path for Japan?

On Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi dissolving the Lower House of Parliament paving the way for a snap election on February 8th,  Dr Kei Koga, Associate Professor of the NTU Public Policy and Global Affairs programme, pointed out that this was not an impulsive decision, but a calculated political choice. Sanae Takaichi still maintains high popularity, especially due to her performance in foreign affairs, which has earned her political space. He said that if Sanae Takaichi wins this election, it will lay a more solid political foundation for her to promote foreign and security policies.
