In a commentary, NTU Asst Prof Dylan Loh wrote about China turning its attention to helping other countries during the COVID-19 pandemic in hopes of building goodwill in recipient countries and garner positive media attention – a narrative that has had limited success. Perhaps, what matters most for Beijing is how its own citizens view its crisis management efforts and entrenching the dependencies of countries already close to China, he wrote.
