In a commentary, Dr Chew Soon Beng, professor of economics and industrial relations at NTU, said companies still hire expat staff even though they cost more because of their experience and in filling in senior positions that Singaporeans are unable to qualify for. He also said that this trend is shifting as more young Singaporeans are studying and working overseas.
