In a commentary, Dr Euston Quah, professor of cost-benefit analysis and head of economics at NTU, said that the actual cost of having a child could be lower than its perceived cost. Dr Quah, who is also president of the Economic Society of Singapore, said, lowering the search costs for a partner with better matchmaking can lead to earlier and more marriages, and this in turn, may result in more babies.
