In a commentary, Dr Euston Quah, head of economics and professor of environmental economics and cost-benefit analysis at NTU, and Ms Christabelle Soh, an economics teacher at a Singapore school, said recycling could be too much of a good thing and in the real world, it carries costs that are often overlooked. They said while measures can be put in place to make recycling less costly, any decision on whether to push for a greater rate of recycling ultimately depends on whether the benefits of a higher recycling rate outweigh the costs.
