Abstract
In this two-part talk, we will present findings from our joint research program investigating formation and functions of interpersonal relationships in adulthood. The first part of the talk will focus on early stages of relationship formation and feature experimental and observational studies examining how we form initial impressions of new individuals, to what extent these impressions persist in initial stages of a relationship, and what makes a relationship resistant to dissolution. The second part will focus on longitudinal and daily life assessments of more established relationships examining how attachment bonds develop in romantic relationships and how these relationships affect psychological and physical well-being.
