In a commentary, NTU associate professor of economics Yip Sau Leung wrote about the reasons behind the current political chaos in Hong Kong, such as a system in which Hong Kong officials avoid taking on responsibility, as well as property issues. The protests may garner support and change if the focus is on property and social mobility issues. But if the focus is on politics, there is little chance of the protests leading to change, he wrote.
