​News | Merdeka Generation Package: Time to move beyond one-time ‘packages’

Teo You Yenn, associate professor and head of sociology at NTU, wrote in a commentary that the emergence of the Merdeka Generation Package (MGP) a few years after the Pioneer Generation Package (PGP) has prompted questions from analysts about the efficiency and fairness of a cohort-by-cohort rather than unified approach to healthcare. The need for an MGP is a sign to rethink the theory that current systems are working as they should and need not be fundamentally fixed. Singapore is currently in a good financial position to make bold moves to address these challenges so that we are indeed future-ready.
