​​Dr William (Lee) Howell of the World Economic Forum visits SSS 

On 23 February 2018, Professor Liu Hong, Chair of School of Social Sciences and Associate Professor Wan Ching, Associate Chair, Research met with Dr William (Lee) Howell pertaining to collaborations between the School of Social Sciences (SSS) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). 

 

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a Swiss nonprofit foundation, based in Cologny, Geneva, Switzerland. Its mission is cited as "committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas". Dr Howell has been a Member of the Managing Board at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland since 2011. 

 

As Head of Global Programming, Dr Howell is responsible for the design and development of the Forum’s flagship annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland; the annual meeting of New Champions in China (“Summer Davos”); and Summit on the Global Agenda in the United Arab Emirates. He is also affiliated with the International Center for Corporate Governance at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland where he completed his PhD, and teaches a course on the Fourth Industrial Revolution for their CEMS programme.

 

Several common interests and objectives were identified at the meeting. Professor Liu cited possible collaboration areas between SSS and the World Economic Forum in: (a) the four subject areas in SSS (Economics, Psychology, Public Policy and Global Affair, and Sociology) as well as the upcoming Geography and Urban Planning subject, (b) the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration - Masters in Public Administration (Mayor’s Programme) and the Lien Fellowship Programme; (c) graduate student learning experience. Both parties look forward to further discussion on the next step of future collaboration for WEF, SSS and NCPA.
