​Chinese companies actively pursue ‘coronavirus diplomacy’ with international donations

In recent months, Chinese companies such as Alibaba, Huawei, Tencent, and ByteDance have been rolling out ‘coronavirus diplomacy’, while telecommunications giant Huawei donated a large amount of supplies to Canada and the US as both countries have strained relations with the company. NTU professor of economics, Tan Kong Yam said that coronavirus diplomacy is one of China government’s key strategies. He added that the Chinese government is aware of the impact and has been encouraging private companies to donate, providing support and facilitation for such activities.
