Join us for the IAS-SSS Distinguished Speaker Public Lecture, featuring Prof Joshua Angrist (Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences 2021; MIT) and Prof Matthew Jackson (Trione Chair of the Department of Economics, Stanford University). Our Guest of Honour, Prof Luke Ong (NTU Distinguished University Professor and Vice President of Research), will be gracing the occasion.

Nobel Prize laureate Prof Joshua Angrist will deliver a talk titled "Escaping the Elite Illusion," wherein he will debunk the notion that an education from highly selective institutions guarantees economic success. His insights will shed light on the true factors that contribute to long-term prosperity.

Our second speaker, Prof Matthew Jackson is the Trione Chair of the Department of Economics and William D. Eberle Professor of Economics at Stanford University. Titled "Divisions in Social Networks, Social Capital, and Implications for Economic Mobility," Prof Jackson will delve into the role of social capital in predicting economic mobility, particularly for children from poor families, and how it holds significant implications for policy and societal progress.
