Advancing Evidence-Based Traditional Chinese Medicine Through Research and Collaboration

Research integrating Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), particularly in areas such as sleep disorders, chronic diseases and women’s health, is set to receive a boost through a new collaboration between NTU and OUE Healthcare.

The partnership will bring together NTU’s expertise in biomedical sciences and Chinese medicine with OUE Healthcare’s clinical experience, supporting joint research, education and clinical practice. Prof. Kanaga Sabapathy, Chair of the School of Biological Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Linda Zhong, Director of Biomedical Sciences and Chinese Medicine, were among the NTU representatives present at the launch. The collaboration will also provide opportunities for students to gain practical experience and contribute to the development of evidence-based integrative healthcare.

Assoc Prof Linda Zhong, Director of Biomedical Sciences and Chinese Medicine at NTU’s School of Biological Sciences, said the partnership would bring researchers and clinicians together to ensure that research addresses real clinical needs while generating knowledge to advance integrative medicine.

She also highlighted the value of collecting patient data in real clinical settings, which could help researchers better understand which conditions may benefit from integrative medicine and further validate these approaches.

The collaboration was announced alongside the establishment of the Stephen Riady Professorship in Healthcare and Technology, supported by a S$3 million endowment from OUE. NTU Deputy President and Provost Prof Christian Wolfrum is the inaugural holder of the Professorship.
