Dr. Yonggui Gao, is a Full Professor and Associate Chair (Faculty), in the School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University (SBS-NTU). Dr Gao got his PhD from Zhejiang University, then had his scientific training in Hokkaido University (Japan) and Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK). In 2009, he experienced Nobel Prize coming to lab (To his postdoc supervisor Venki Ramakrishnan). In 2010, Dr. Gao was awarded Singapore NRF Fellowship, then moved to SBS-NTU and set up his own lab.
Currently his lab is working on structure and function of protein translation, regulation and protein quality control, biofilm formation and exopolysarccharide biosynthesis through combative approches, mainly structural methods such as single particle cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography. The work from his lab on ribosome associated factors in structure and function, has uncovered significant findings in protein translation regulation, action mechanism of drug resistance and microbial stress response, including Sci Advance 2024, Cell Reports 2022, PNAS 2018, JBC 2016, PNAS 2015, NSMB 2013.
