Please share with us your professional life’s journey and at which point in your career did you aspire to pursue this certificate.

With my background in bioinformatics, where ethical and governance considerations are paramount, I transitioned to data science with the hope of seeing a similar framework established in this rapidly evolving field. This certification course provides a timely avenue for aligning professionals within the data science and AI industry under a common set of ethical principles.

Describe the factors that led you to choose PaCE@NTU.

My search for relevant courses led me to the NTU FlexiMasters certification. The traditional two-to-three-year Master's degree format often impedes busy professionals like myself. However, the unique structure of NTU FlexiMasters immediately appealed to me. The partnership between Singapore Computer Society (SCS) and NTU School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) boosts my confidence that the courses are designed in close collaboration with industry experts, ensuring their relevance and practical application.

Which aspect of this certificate did you like the most?

In addition to acquiring a valuable certificate that strengthens my employability and career prospects, the courses offer enriching peer-to-peer interactions with seasoned professionals from diverse organisations. This provides us an opportunity to expand our network, share insights and learn from each other’s experiences to stay abreast of industry developments and collaboratively explore best practices.

Has this certificate benefitted you in your career development?

With Certificate in AI Ethics and Governance, I am able to confidently lead the implementation of its robust framework within my organisation, enhancing transparency and building trust in our AI initiatives. I am able to share my acquired knowledge with external audiences, raising awareness about the critical role of ethical AI through presentations and seminars. Having the certification definitely increases my credibility and the confidence from my audiences.

Will you recommend PaCE@NTU’s programmes to your friends and family?

I have shared information about this wonderful programme, particularly emphasising the benefits of the NTU FlexiMasters, with my friends. The courses offered by PaCE@NTU are aligned with national skills development and designed to meet current industry needs. Not only are the courses short enough to fit into busy schedules, but they are also highly affordable with subsidies from SkillsFuture Singapore and NTU Alumni Course Credits.

Do you think lifelong learning is important? Please share your thoughts about it.

Not making progress means regressing. This belief has given me the drive to continually upgrade and learn new things. I've switched coding languages more times than I can count since my university days. By constantly leveling up my skills, I've gone from engineer to bioinformatician to data scientist. In this fast-changing world, lifelong learning is the key to stay relevant. Lifelong learning should not be restricted to our profession, it should also be practiced in our own character and personality development.
